Benefits of Deep tine Aeration

I know most golfers do not like greens aeration however, there are many benefits and one of them is rooting. The roots in this picture are growing right down a deep tine aeration hole and if we would have all our roots this deep, most of our troubles would be minimal.

The cup cutter blade is approximately 8" long and that means the roots growing from the cup cutter are approximately 10" long. That's amazing when you consider roots are able grow this long from a grass plant that is being mowed at 1/8". The reason is oxygen and free space. The roots can grow much easier in open space as compared to pushing their way through the soil.
